After two seasons of competitions the Nova Scotia Golf Association is pleased to announce the final selection of the 2009 Nova Scotia Canada Games Golf Team. Team members played in five tournaments over the past 2 years and accumulated points based on their results. The final tournament in the selection process was the 2009 Nova Scotia Junior Championship that finished on July 16. Nova Scotia will field a team of three boys and three girls to compete in both individual and team competitions during the 2009 Canada Games in Prince Edward Island. The teams will compete on the Brudenell River Golf Course, RoseneathPE on August 24-28. This year will be the first time that golf is to be included as a sport in the Canada Summer Games. 

Leading the girls in the points’ race was Brynn Tomie of the Northumberland Golf Club.  Joining  Brynn on the team are Irene Jung from the Links of Penn Hills and Courtney Balcome from the Paragon Golf Club.

Eric Locke from the Digby Pines Golf Club won the points’ event for the boys’ team. Eric will lead his team mates, Eric Banks of the Truro Golf Club and Ally Tidcombe of the Ken-Wo Golf Club in the competitions.

Head coach Ed Hanczaryk and manager Erica Baldwin will accompany the team to Prince Edward Island.

The Nova Scotia Golf Association (NSGA) is the governing body of golf in Nova Scotia, representing over 18,000 members at 61 clubs across the province. Recognized by Sport Nova Scotia as the Provincial Sports Organization (PSO) for golf in this Nova Scotia, the NSGA's mission is to develop the future of golf in Nova Scotia while upholding the integrity and traditions of the game. The NSGA conducts programs and services to help shape the future of golf in Nova Scotia. High performance athlete development, Rules of Golf and amateur status, handicapping and course rating, and CN Future Links, junior golf program, are only some of the initiatives the association leads for golf in Nova Scotia. In addition, the NSGA conducts Nova Scotia's thirteen (13) provincial golf championships.

ABOUT TEAM NOVA SCOTIA
Team Nova Scotia -2009 comprises approximately 430 members consisting of 340 athletes, 76 coaches, managers and team staff, 3 artists and 16 mission staff.

Team Nova Scotia won 46 medals at the 2005 Canada Games in Regina, Saskatchewan. The Games in Lethbridge, Alberta, and team finished in sixth place overall, the same ranking as in 2001.  At 2001 Games in London, Ontario, Team Nova Scotia won 47 medals and the Centennial Cup that is awarded to the team that makes the greatest improvement from the Summer Games to Summer Games or from the Winter Games to Winter Games.

Nova Scotia also won the Centennial Cup at the 1975 Winter Games and at the 1981 Summer Games in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

Nova Scotia won the inaugural Claude Hardy Award for the best mission staff in 2001, and again in 2003.

Nova Scotia has hosted the Games twice. The 1969 Summer Games were held in Halifax/Dartmouth and the 1987 Winter Games were held in Sydney. The province will host the games next in the winter of 2011.
