THE 2012 NOVA SCOTIA PLAYER OF THE YEAR
MISSION STATEMENT
The Player of the Year (POY) is a ranking system that awards points to players from their finishes in various tournaments throughout the golfing year. It is designed to promote the development of golfers in Nova Scotia through a ranking system based on their competitive accomplishments that provides players with a means to compare their development relative to their peers. Player of the Year information can be used for building resumes and portfolios.
ELIGIBILITY
Players must be amateur golfers as defined by the Rules of Amateur Status, be a member in good standing of the Nova Scotia Golf Association and play in at least one identified Nova Scotia POY event each year.
All tournaments for the POY must be registered with the NSGA office by June 15, 2012. Registration forms for the 2012 POY can be found on the NSGA website or by contacting the NSGA office. No tournament will be included in the POY standings without a completed registration form.
Upon completion of POY tournaments, club and tournament officials are responsible for submitting results to the NSGA office. Results are to be submitted by completing the POY Tournament Results Form and returning it to the NSGA office within seven (7) days of the completion of the tournament or by September 30, whichever date comes first. Result forms can be found on the NSGA website or by contacting the NSGA office.
Club Tournaments must have a minimum of 15 players to be eligible for POY standings.
Club Championships must have a minimum of 10 players to be eligible for POY standings.
Tournaments that are conducted after the September 30th deadline will be included in the following years POY.
POY Result spreadsheets will be posted on the website and ranked from highest to lowest. These spreadsheets will be updated regularly throughout the season with the final update at the end of September.
Juniors are not able to accumulate Junior POY points in amateur events or Amateur POY points in junior events; i.e., points received in an Amateur event must be credited to that event and will be credited towards their Amateur POY standing..
PROCESS FOR CALCULATING POINTS
The NSGA office staff is responsible for calculating points for each player who has earned points. To determine what events are used and their point values, go to the "POY Point Chart" on the NSGA website, www.nsga.ns.ca.

MAXIMUM 10 EVENTS PER PLAYER
To prevent a player from accumulating a distorted number of points due to the number of tournaments played, the associated costs incurred, and recognizing the need for scheduling breaks to avoid burnout; the total points recorded will count a maximum of 10 events in which the player earns the most points.
TIE BREAKING PROCEDURE
In the event of a tie the players will receive the amount allocated based on their finish. For example, if there were a 3 way tie for 8thspot in the Women’s Amateur, each competitor will be awarded 25 points, however 9th and 10th points will not be awarded.
NSGA PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Awards are given to the top ranking male and female amateur and male and female junior golfers.
-
Any individual stroke play Invitational, Field Day or Club Championship played in accordance with the Rules of Golf.
Note: Competitions such as scrambles or those that allow “mulligans” are not eligible for POY points.
- NSGA provincial championships (amateur and junior)
A complete list of registered POY tournaments will be posted on the NSGA web site.
The Nova Scotia Golf Provincial Player Development Committee reviews the relative weighting of tournament events and the points awarded to each tournament. The POY is revised when necessary at that time (off-season/winter) for the following year.
