NSGA and RCGA Membership Benefits

Your membership in the NSGA/RCGA helps to support the many programs and services that promote and develop the game of golf in Nova Scotia. Since 1931, the NSGA has been dedicated to preserving and protecting golf in the province. The NSGA provides a variety of services to its member clubs and their members. These services include the Handicap System, course rating, CN Future Links junior programs, the Murray Purcell Bursary Program, turfgrass research and Rules of Golf seminars.ballontee

In addition to the above services the NSGA conducts 14 Provincial Championship that cater to all levels of golfers around the Province. From these tournaments we send 7 teams to national championships.

  • The NSGA was found in 1931 and is the official governing body of golf in Nova Scotia.
  • As an NSGA member you also become members of the Royal Canadian Golf Association which is the national governing body of golf in Canada.
  • That the through the CN Future Links Program the NSGA introduced 4000 kids to the game of golf in 2006.
  • That the NSGA gives out $13,000.00 every year in bursaries to members who are attendingirlsgolfg post secondary schools.
  • That NSGA membership includes a free subscription to “Golf Canada Magazine” -a $25.00 value.
  •  That the NSGA is responsible for the Course Slope and Rating for all our member clubs. The Slope and Rating allows for handicapping and provides a reference point for the difficulty levels of different courses.
  • NSGA and RCGA members are entitled to keep a handicap.
  • The RCGA contributes $100,000.00 a year to turf grass research to help keep golf courses green and enjoyable.
  • The NSGA sends 7 teams to National championships every summer to represent Nova Scotia.

WHAT IS THE ROYAL CANADIAN GOLF ASSOCIATION?

  • The RCGA is the governing body of golf in Canada.
  • Founded in 1895, the RCGA has more than 377,000 members playing at 1,650 associated member clubs across Canada.
  • The RCGA administers and oversees the Rules of Golf and Amateur Status in Canada.
  • The RCGA is the governing body for the purposes of establishing and maintaining a uniform handicap system for golf clubs in Canada.
  • The RCGA conducts 14 national amateur championships each year.
  • The RCGA conducts the only PGA Tour and LPGA Tour events in Canada.
  • The RCGA promotes research and development in environmental and agronomic fields.
  • The RCGA owns Golf Canada, our official member magazine.
  • The RCGA operates the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame and Museum and its associated archives.
  • The RCGA is dedicated to the future growth and development of the game through, CN Future Links, Player Development and the CN Canadian Women’s Tour.
  • The RCGA owns and operates national training centers.
  • In 1979 the RCGA created the Canadian Golf Foundation to raise and grant funds for the advancement of golf in Canada through academic scholarships.
    In 2004 the foundation was renamed the RCGA Foundation.
