Bulletin Board - BlueGolf News

Commencing in 2007 the NSGA will begin to use more of the services of the BlueGolf software. This will include the possibility of on line registration for most NSGA Tournaments.

A paper entry form for each tournament will still be available at Member Clubs, some golf shops and on line from the BlueGolf information pages.

A directory of NSGA Tournament Players is being populated using the information from the 2006 tournament entry forms and is expected to be completed by the end of March.

Players who provided an email address on their 2006 entry form will receive an email with their Personal ID and Password so they can audit, update and/or modify the information that has been entered through a box like the one on the left.

This box will become available under tournaments on the new NSGA website to be released in March.

A player (not already a tournament player) will become a tournament player when he/she registers on line or on paper for any 2007 NSGA Provincial Tournament.

Once on line registration has been opened in BlueGolf (the word register will appear opposite each open tournament) it is not necessary that a player be a Tournament Player to use the online registration.

The mailing of entry forms to member clubs, the availability of entry form print outs on line, and the ability to register on line will be managed to ensure equal opportunity for all, regardless of their internet skills.

The information pages for each of the 2007 tournaments are expected to be completed by the end of February and instructions for on line registration will be published on the website prior to registration being opened.

Scholarships to support Maritime golfers -

Oakville, Ont. – The Royal Canadian Golf Association (RCGA) and the RCGA Foundation are pleased to announce the creation of the Lib and Hal Connor Endowment Fund. The fund was established through a gift commitment of $150,000 made to the RCGA Foundation by the Connor Family in memory of Elizabeth (Lib) and Harold (Hal) Connor in recognition of their contribution to golf and business in Nova Scotia.

The Lib and Hal Connor Endowment Fund will award annual scholarship(s) to students with a competitive game of golf who were born or reside in Atlantic Canada, especially Nova Scotia. Preference is that the scholarship recipients be attending a Canadian university or college with an RCGA Foundation accredited golf program.

“This contribution is a significant boost for Nova Scotia and Maritime golfers,” said Jim Fraser, Executive Director of the RCGA Foundation. “The fund will help to support the RCGA Foundations’ mandate of keeping Canadians in Canada and developing leaders that help shape the future of golf.”

“My parents played an influential role in golf in Nova Scotia and it is a pleasure to be able to honour their legacy through this endowment.” said Denis Connor, son of Lib and Hal Connor. “My sisters and I are proud to dedicate this fund in their names in helping to support the futures of promising student athletes looking to pursue post secondary opportunities.”

The awards will be given to full-time students in a degree granting program who have been accepted at a university or college and have been named to the school’s golf team. The candidates must also demonstrate a record of athletic and academic excellence. Selection for the awards will be made by the Scholarship/Granting Committee of the RCGA Foundation with guidance from the Connor family.

Oakville, Ontario -The Royal Canadian Golf Association announced today that amateur golfers will be able to accept prizes up to the value of $1,000 CDN following changes to the Rules of Amateur Status that come into effect on January 1st, 2004.  The previous prize limit was $700 CDN for any event.

Announcing the changes, RCGA Managing Director of Amateur Status Jim Fraser said, "Periodically, the amateur prize limit is increased to keep it at an appropriate level.  This change is consistent with the increases made by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews from 300 pounds to 500 pounds and the United States Golf Association from $500 USD to $750 USD."
